Congrats to Internazionale!!!

Milito the Hero! There is no doubt that Milito played one of his best club games on Saturday against Bayern Munich even at the age of 30. To be honest, I knew he would play a big role, but I didn't know it would be THIS big of a role. First he scores a goal..and then he scored another. I even almost thought he would have a third with the momentum he was carrying. What he produces this year in the World Cup with Argentina will be interesting to see.

It was clear that Robben couldn't help lift his team to the level they needed to be at. Perhaps it was the pressure or perhaps other key players like Klose didn't step it up themselves. Either way, we know Jose Mourinho was delighted because that was his second UEFA Champions League title he's received with two different teams. If he does make his anticipated move to Real Madrid I wouldn't put it past him to win yet another title. Hey, Mourinho's a stud!I would be interested though, to see how Mourinho and Ronaldo get along seeing as they were heated competitors just a few seasons ago in England.

Here are some scores for friendlies taking place in final preparation for the World Cup - 17 days to go!!!
Argentina 3-0 Canada (HT)
Australia 2-1 New Zealand
Portugal 0-0 Cape Verde
South Africa 1-1 Bulgaria (2nd Half)
England 3-1 Mexico 1 (2nd Half)
South Korea 2-0 Japan

Chelsea is crowned, Ballack is injured, and Torres a potential signing

If you didn't already guess, this post is clearly strongly emphasizing what is happening in the Blues' world. Yes, they are the EPL champs and yes, Ballack has been injured. I also just wanted to point out to you ostentatious Chelsea fans that Sunderland even has more EPL titles than the Blues and to be brutally honest, they are awful.

What's more interesting about the injury is that it happened in none other than the infamous FA Cup. Boateng of Portsmouth made an awful and unnecessary tackle on Ballack which resulted in Ballack's severe injury which will now keep him out of the World Cup. The best part? Boateng is on Ghana which is in the same group as Germany!

And my third point on Chelsea: Torres of Liverpool/ Spain is said to be in the "strong talks" of signing with the Blues for a 70 million Euro transfer. That's nuts! Anyhow, hopefully Torres doesn't make this stupid signing because if he does, I guarantee you he won't be as prestigious in the views of Spanish fans or anywhere else for much longer.

My last topic of interest is Barcelona. Congrats to them as they won the La Liga title this past weekend. Were records broken? Absolutely. They now hold the record for the most goals scored in a single season (98) and the most points earned (99). Which club previously held this record? None other than Barcelona themselves.

Here is a video of Barcelona's final La Liga game from this weekend (the quality isn't great, but at least it's a good highlight reel of the game):

2010 World Cup Songs

I realize that there have been many games this past week in Europe, but I wanted to focus on something, I feel, very few people are aware of, and that is the new songs for this year's World Cup. I must say I'm really happy with what these artists have come up with especially since it ties together South Africa and African history/ tradition. Unfortunately, some artists like Shakira have been getting negative attention for their songs. I will be sure to give a good recap next week on all the action.
34 days until the World Cup and here are the songs:

1. First on the list is K'naan's Wavin' Flag. Originally it was meant for Haiti, but now it has really dispersed in other directions and is now the official World Cup anthem.

2. The song with much controversy - Shakira's Waka Waka. Brooks Peck actually has the video here on his blog and gives a very good summary about all the craziness surrounding the song. What's questionable is that the blog claims Shakira's song is the official anthem...hmmm? I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure Wavin' Flag is the official song.

3. The third and final song is Akon's Oh Africa. Personally, I like the African beat and lyrics, but I also think it sounds somewhat similar to Wavin' Flag - specifically, the beats, that is. Anyhow, take a look a let me know what you guys think.

Marseille Secure Ligue 1

I wanted to follow up in this post on my earlier Marseille post. I'm certainly happy Marseille won becuase this is the first time it has happened since 1992. The clinched the title witha  3-1 home win over Rennes.Obviously the needed some help from Auxerre and they certianly got that; Auxerre lost 2-1 to Lyon at Lyon.

Clearly, Marseille's veterns came through and let their squad to a well deserved title. However, I think what is important to realize in all of this is that next year, for Marseille to follow up a season like this is definitely going to be one of the tougher tasks they take on. Following up any title for any club is difficult, but when you don't have many young, fresh legs out there it is even more difficult. Marseille's manager, Eric Gerets, is going to need to recruit lots of new talent. As I've said before, for MArseille, the next five years or so are going to have to be building seasons. But watch out in 2015 because these guys are going to be big time!
